Pay Range:  $23.00 per hour and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: Position is responsible for leading and guiding students working in a JCAE computer lab. Student activities include taking standardized assessments; learning digital literacy skills through North Star assessments; writing essays, resumes and cover letters; and completing online coursework required for their GED® credential through Google Classroom and Aztec. Responsibilities of the computer lab instructor include assigning and overseeing work toward specific learning objectives and troubleshooting technology issues as well as accurate data collection and reporting (assessment scores, attendance, daily progress, etc.). Instructors must be able to properly collect and manage confidential student records. Additional requirements include creating student online profiles, maintaining online records, and offering classroom support when needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Strong digital literacy skills
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Attention to detail and accurate record-keeping
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role
  • Demonstrated ability to improve learner academic skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Elementary or Secondary Education degree
  • K-12 teaching experience
  • In-depth knowledge of adult basic education principles and curriculum
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct, encourage and coach adult basic education learners
  • Understanding of the unique needs of adult basic education students
  • Previous experience teaching high school equivalency skills to adult learners, preferably GED® preparation
  • Experience with academic courseware such as Google Classroom, Aztec, Plato, Reading Horizons or Khan Academy

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

Develop, oversee, and update digital literacy instruction for adult basic education learners.

a. Current digital literacy curriculum is aligned with local, state, and national standards

b. Digital literacy curriculum meets the needs of adult basic education students in all JCAE programs (ABE/GED, English Connection, Corrections, and employer on­site programming)

c. Digital literacy curriculum prepares JCAE students for transitioning into college or career readiness programs and are work-ready

d. Assign and monitor online instruction to meet specified learning objectives.

a. All applicable protocols and rules are followed to maintain an appropriate testing environment

c. Attendance is documented accurately and submitted on time 

Support students in strengthening their basic computer skills

a. Students are continuously involved in productive activity (they spend minimal time "waiting" for the resolution of a technical issue)

b. Students become proficient in diagnosing and resolving their own technical issues

c. Students become adept at navigating a computer and finding the information they seek on job opportunities, training requirements, etc. 

Support overall learning environment and objectives

a. Students and classroom instructors are supported in their learning objectives, and content is expanded and supported through online resources

b. Students receive feedback on their digital literacy skills
