Pay Range:  $17.82-$22.80 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: Provide public safety and parking services to the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) community through the enforcement of departmental and college policies, regulations, standards, and parking rules.

Required Qualifications:

  • Considered highly skilled and proficient in discipline.
  • Conducts complex, important work under minimal supervision and with wide latitude for independent judgment.
  • Requires a high school diploma and 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must qualify and certify with ASP baton, CPR, AED, First Aid and Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) spray.
  • Must obtain FEMA certification.
  • Minimum age 21.
  • Required to be a US Citizen by the State of Kansas.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Answer calls for service typical to the college environment, such as responding to medical emergencies, locking and unlocking classrooms, assisting motorists, recovering property, issuing smoking and parking violations, and keeping campus thoroughfares and lots unobstructed. 
  • Enforce unrestricted and restricted parking on campus and reserved parking arrangements. 
  • Oversee event parking management and direct traffic during large events on campus. Serve as the Police department liaison for JCCC event planning and construction. Coordinate reserved parking for events and VIP guests. Assist with event security and protection of high-profile campus visitors.
  • Conduct traffic planning and maintain adequate and safe traffic flow, keeping campus thoroughfares and lots unobstructed. Enforce municipal, state, and federal traffic laws and regulations. Issue parking citations for non-compliance with campus parking regulations and coordinate towing as necessary.
  • Give assistance to motorists for a variety of situations. Offer roadside assistance and safety positioning to motorists experiencing issues, such as flat tires, mechanical problems, low battery, or running out of gas. Respond to traffic accidents, securing the scene and coordinating with other emergency and medical response teams. 
  • Inspect signage, roadways, and egress points to ensure they are continuously maintained and free of obstruction. Monitor campus grounds for any safety hazards. 
  • Monitor activity and conduct security patrols to detect suspicious activity, deter crime, preserve law and order, and safeguard life and property. 
  • Assist students, staff, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner that instills trust and respect within the JCCC community. Perform duties in a conscientious and efficient manner.
  • Assist Campus Dispatch and serve as a back-up during emergencies and shortages. 
  • Respond swiftly to emergencies such as medical incidents, natural disasters, and mental health crises, providing assistance and coordinating with other emergency services as required. Prepare reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities. Prepare related documentation in a timely and accurate manner. 
  • Serve as security escort to students, staff, faculty, and visitors throughout the campus, maintaining safety as a priority in all situations.
