Position Summary: The museum seeks to hire a dedicated individual with professional office skills and organizational abilities to work alongside the Curator of Education. The individual will work with museum administrative staff members and long-term volunteers to implement the museum’s mission, policies and procedures for interpretive activities, services and programs.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in art, art history, education, or related field
One year professional experience including customer service, office duties, or working with volunteers
Computer skills and working knowledge of business applications: MS Word, MS Access, and Excel
Strong organizational skills
Must be detail oriented, extremely accurate, and able to handle multiple priorities
Excellent oral and written communication skills, customer service and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree-seeking, concurrently enrolled in a graduate program at a local university

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Serve as a central point of contact for daily activities and educational programs. Work with the Nerman Museum staff and volunteers as an integral member of the team. Assist the Curator of Education with program management by coordinating volunteers and keeping records for JCCC tours, field trips and classes for children.
  • Responsible for daily tour scheduling and correspondence with school groups and community groups requesting guided and self-guided tours (receive and process phone calls, emails, and mailed requests, coordinate weekly docent tour sign-ups, create and disseminate confirmations, collect feedback), keep records and compile program statistics for semester reports; maintain professional communication with a wide range of visitors with various interests, abilities, and needs; and also maintain records and other clerical duties for the museum’s educational programs. The individual will consider visitors’ requests with sensitivity while adhering to institutional protocol. 
  • Assist with volunteer management by developing and applying effective methods for recruiting, retaining and recognizing volunteers for educational programs with serving campus and community members. Assist with docent coordination (work with Curator of Education to organize monthly volunteer training meetings) update volunteer database records and compile individual activity statistics for semester reports. 
  • Inventory and order supply items and materials as needed for children’s studio classroom. 
  • Assist with presentations, instructor contracts and other clerical duties as assigned.
  • Maintain, update and reconcile database contact information for Art Education mailing lists.
  • Other duties as assigned.
