Position Summary: Assist the Supervisor with the management for Communications Center of the Johnson County Community College (JCCC) Police Department, providing a professional, efficient, and effective point of interface between all aspects of the college community and those seeking interaction.
Required Qualifications:
- Requires three years of experience as a 911 dispatcher and at least one year of supervisory experience.
- First-level leadership.
- Coordinates and leads daily team activities.
- Assists the Supervisor with management decisions and activities.
- Working knowledge of team function within the organization.
- Must become NCIC, NIMS (National Incident Management System), and ICS certified.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Coordinate the daily work of communications dispatchers. Monitor work to ensure that employees are following established guidelines and procedures. Lead in a manner that drives operational excellence, continual improvement, and teamwork.
- Coordinate the handling of phone and radio communications that lead to the dispatch of emergency personnel. Ensure a timely and effective response to incidents affecting the JCCC community.
- Assist as a hiring committee member to screen and interview new applicants to the communications team.
- Determine appropriate levels of staffing and coordinate scheduling with the Supervisor to ensure adequate coverage.
- Prepare all staff to provide the appropriate level of service and equipment/system activation needed in emergency situations. Allocate appropriate personnel and resources for incident management. Grant leave requests and work any shift to fill in for shortages.
- Oversee the Police property room functions and a variety of support duties, including the processing, receipt, storage, safekeeping, release, and disposal of property that comes into the custody and/or control of the JCCC Police Department. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures while maintaining record-keeping systems related to property.
- Coordinate and deliver initial and ongoing training for communication to employees on dispatch policies and procedures.
- Monitor departmental metrics and prepare reports for senior leadership on dispatch activities, status, and issues.
- Maintain detailed and complete documentation that contains relevant information regarding all phone calls, radio traffic, and units dispatched.
- Collaborate with the Clery Act Officer, Title IX Team, Clery Act Team, and Emergency Preparedness Manager on various campus compliance and emergency response issues and initiatives.
