Position Summary: The CONNECT Peer Mentor serves as a peer support for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are enrolled in the CONNECT Supported Education Program. The mentor position is key to the success of CONNECT students learning to navigate the campus, learning social skills and becoming connected with the resources of JCCC. Similar positions would include student ambassadors.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current JCCC student
- Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate standard office equipment
- Ability to work with students with varying degrees of disabilities
- Knowledge of the JCCC buildings and campus
Preferred Qualifications:
- Six months experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities or enrolled in a social service-related field program

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:
- Assist assigned mentees with creating a weekly campus involvement/academic plan– Meet with mentees on a weekly basis to explore activities and interests of the CONNECT student. Assist mentees in making connections to campus clubs and organizations. This may include attending classes, events and clubs with the mentee as requested and/or available.
- Model appropriate social interactions for students - Act as a role model for students in classroom and social situations and assist students in becoming comfortable with program routine and campus life. Student concerns and/or issues are addressed with guidance from the CONNECT Coordinator.
- Assist the CONNECT Coordinator in documenting campus involvement hours– CONNECT for Success mentors will meet with the CONNECT Coordinator on a weekly basis to report each mentees weekly schedule and provide documentation of campus involvement hours completed.
