Johnson County Community College is seeking a full-time faculty member in our Architecture Department. The Architecture program at JCCC is in its twenty-ninth year of providing services to its students and the community. It is unique in its ability to provide a full, one-year transfer curriculum in Architecture into the second-year of major university Schools of Architecture. The faculty in the department teach courses in; Introduction to Architecture, Design Studios in Architecture, Architectural History, and Special Topic courses in Architecture. These courses are the foundation for students preparing for careers in Architecture, Interior Architecture, Landscape Design, and Urban Planning and Design.
We seek candidates who are well positioned to shape the future of architectural studies within the greater context of the arts and humanities. This position demands a positive person, with teaching, leadership, and management skills. Candidate must also promote, support, and help coordinate all aspects of the architecture program with our students and university partners. Teaching will be on campus, primarily face-to-face contact in a physical classroom, with potential of online instruction. Candidate must be available for in-person teaching, Monday through Friday. Teaching load is based on an average of fifteen credit hours per semester, with an average of five classes per semester.
The individual selected for this position should understand the community college environment and foster the success in supporting students at all levels of ability and who are from diverse backgrounds. The faculty member is expected to demonstrate competence in mastery of subject matter, professional development, teaching performance, evaluation of student learning, participation in college/division/program activities, support college policies and procedures, and contribution to the growth and enhancement of the college mission and programs.

Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the college. Lab Instructors teach requisite firefighting skills to prepare students for third party state firefighter certification pertaining to four core curriculums (Hazmat Awareness, Hazmat Operations, Fire I, Fire II). Lab Instructors work with, teach, and maintain fire equipment (chain saws, ladders, breathing apparatus, personal protective gear, extrication equipment) to ensure students receive quality and emergency services operations and delivery. Ability to interpret and evaluate theories in the field or discipline and connect subject matter with related fields. Plan and organize instruction in ways which maximize student learning. Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies. Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs. Create and/or modify course revisions appropriate to current Fire and Emergency Services principles and delivery methods. Employ available instructional technology when appropriate. Serve as proctor on the Candidate Physical Abilities Test (CPAT).
