Pay Range:  $53,900.00-$70,100.00 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: The Assistant Program Director is responsible for the oversight of the classrooms, including KDHE and NAEYC classroom compliance, oversight of the Classroom Supervisors, curriculum, child assessments, staff files, onboarding of new hires and lesson plans. The position also serves as the Program Director in the Program Director’s absence.

The shift for this position is Monday-Friday year-round from 9am-5:30pm.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (See NAEYC link below)
  • 5 years’ experience minimum in a child care center or preschool.
  • Must meet either the 6c.3 Pedagogical Administrator or 6c.4 Operational Administrator requirements for NAEYC https://www.naeyc.org/sites/default/files/globally-shared/downloads/PDFs/accreditation/early-learning/staff_qualification_options.pdf
  • Must meet requirements for program director of a child care center as defined by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for more than 100 children.
  • Experience with word processing and general computer use.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in early childhood education.
  • Experience in early childhood care and education on a college campus.
  • 2 years’ Administrative experience.
  • Knowledge of Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold Assessment.
  • Experience in NAEYC nationally accredited programs.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • 1. PROVIDE SUPPORT TO HCDC CLASSROOMS AND TEACHING STAFF
    • a. Regular and consistent time spent in every HCDC classroom; averaging at least 50% or 20 hours/week either directly in the classrooms or supporting the classrooms by making curriculum materials, training staff, or supports as needed.
    • b. Conduct Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) observations or utilize a similar observation tool in the fall and spring for each classroom with coaching and feedback for each teaching team.
    • c. Reviewing classroom lesson plans weekly and providing feedback to the teaching team about their lessons or activities as appropriate.
    • d. Meeting with and supporting staff through:
      • i. Conducting 1:1’s with direct reports (Classroom Supervisors) monthly or more frequently as needed.
      • ii. Assisting teachers with child behaviors, behavior plans, referrals for service, etc.
      • iii. Attending team meetings, parent meetings or conferences, as applicable.
      • iv. Finding trainings and professional development for staff in alignment with their professional development goals.
    • e. Escalating concerns when and as appropriate to the Program Director. 
  • 2. ENSURES OPERATIONS AND RECORD KEEPING ARE IN COMPLIANCE WITH REGULATIONS
    • a. Ensures accuracy of staff files, child files, and center records as outlined by Kansas Department of Education (KDHE) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
    • b. Ensure records for mandatory staff training are accurate and up to date.
      • i. Ensure KDHE Annual training hours are met for all staff.
      • ii. Ensure JCCC mandatory trainings are met for all staff upon hire and annually.
    • c. Ensures KDHE & NAEYC regulations for classrooms, such as supplies, wall displays, books, materials, etc. are met and maintained.
    • d. Conducts indoor and outdoor safety checks ensuring maintenance and improvement request are submitted and completed.
    • e. Ensures daily staffing ratios as determined by KDHE & NAEYC are maintained in each classroom.
    • f. Assist Program Director with center NAEYC Program Portfolio and review of Class Portfolios.
    • g. Acts as the Program Director of HCDC in the absence of the Program Director. 
  • 3. HIRING AND ONBOARDING OF NEW STAFF
    • a. Schedule and serve as the hiring chair of interviews for potential candidates.
    • b. Onboard and train new hires with applicable trainings per their role requirements.
    • c. Create and maintain new hire files.
  • 4. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
    • a. This position is responsible for the supervision and leadership of the Classroom Supervisors, which includes making employment decisions and/or recommendation.
    • b. Coaching, feedback, and focus on growth of employees to ensure Center success.
    • c. Formally evaluating performance of direct reports annually.
    • d. Reviewing timecards and leave reports for all staff bi-weekly.
    • e. Reviewing purchasing cards and classroom budget spending monthly. f. Act as the liaison between HCDC and the ABM (cleaning crew).
