Position Summary: Conduct lab preparation for Johnson County Community College’s (JCCC) Automation Engineer Technology courses to ensure a safe, efficient, and organized environment conducive to learning.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Current valid driver license.
  • Knowledge of electrical and construction safety.
  • Must be enrolled in the Automation Engineer Technology program.
  • Performs advanced tasks under minimal supervision.
  • May mentor less-experienced team members.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Maintain, calibrate, and repair equipment and tools used by the Automation Engineer Technology program. Ensure machinery and equipment are operable and in clean condition. Coordinate and perform preventative and routine maintenance to keep machinery and tools in optimal condition. 
  • Ensure machinery is staged appropriately for classes. Monitor that all class materials, tools, and equipment are stocked and available to accommodate lab and class schedules. Set up the lab and prep areas for scheduled classes. Ensure students have the materials, tools, and equipment needed for class and lab use. 
  • Take inventory of the Automation Engineer Technology program’s materials, machinery, supplies, tools, and equipment within the lab and classrooms. Order and restock supplies and equipment to ensure students have materials needed for class and lab use. Build and maintain positive relationships with vendors and monitor vendor performance. Research invoice and contractual issues and resolve discrepancies. 
  • Enforce and promote safety protocols and guidelines, including the proper use of safety equipment. Provide a safe, efficient, and clean work area that is free of debris, trash, and clutter. Ensure tools and materials are organized and stored correctly and that equipment and work areas are cleaned according to established protocols.
  • Organize the lab and classrooms and their contents in between courses.
  • Explain concepts to students regarding developing, installing, and maintaining automated systems in industrial settings. Provide assistance that supports instructional needs and meets the requirements of varying class schedules. Fulfill ad hoc and last-minute requests from instructors and staff as needed. Assist instructors with class supervision on occasion. 
  • Communicate with instructors regarding Automation Engineer Technology protocols, supplies, and equipment. Maintain organized records for program activities, repairs, and maintenance.
  • Provide guidance and direction to students as they gain and apply practical automation engineering and technical skills and knowledge. Assist students with questions and concerns related to program activities and processes. Monitor conditions and activities in work areas and enforce policies, procedures, and standards. Help students diagnose and resolve issues. 
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain departmental compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations and JCCC policies.
  • Drive to pick up supplies, tools, and equipment as needed.
