Pay Range:  $71,500 - $94,000 and determined based on relevant years of work experience.

Position Summary: The Director of Fire Science, recommended by the division dean, is charged with administrative responsibility for specific program(s) and areas of discipline concentration within the division structure.

In reporting to the dean of the division, the director manages the respective department in compliance with local, state and professional education essentials and practice; recommending personnel for hiring and termination and conducting performance reviews; proposing and implementing the program strategic plan and budget; maintaining open communication channels between the program and all levels of the college and internal and external communities of interest; actively recruiting and retaining students; contributing to division and college activities and committees; conducting ongoing review of program policies, procedures and outcomes; and representing the program and college through community and professional activities and organizations. The director is also involved in fostering departmental affiliations and relations; coordinating the didactic and clinical curriculum; and facilitating matriculation of students through a selective admission process and transition to professional credentialing and practice.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree (dependent on program accreditation requirement) and three years managerial experience in discipline or related field; Professional credentials and/or licenses, as applicable, to department area(s) supervised are required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in discipline or related field preferred.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Student Matriculation - Facilitates matriculation of students through selective admission, pre-registration, retention, graduation. 
  • Faculty and Staff Supervision - directs the coordination, recruitment, and selection of full-time and part-time faculty and staff, including clinical preceptors, as indicated 
  • % - External Constituencies - Fosters positive relationships with all external stakeholders. Performance is acceptable when he/she: a. recommends cooperative agreements with other institutions/agencies b. fosters positive external affiliate relationships c. represents the department and the college at local, state and national levels, as indicated d. establishes mutually agreeable schedules and arrangements with affiliating institutions/agencies e. assures compliance with external accrediting, affiliate, state, and professional agency specifications, including required data acquisition, analysis and reporting f recommends selection and coordination of program advisory committees, including insuring a minimum of two meetings each academic year with dissemination of minutes to the division office - (Essential)
  • Communication - Engage in open dialogue at all levels of the college and its surrounding community, to promote the success of all students, and to sustain the community college mission. 
  • Curriculum - provides leadership for overall program curriculum development and evaluation to assure program vitality leading to student success. 
  • Management - directs the coordination of fiscal, physical and human resources. 
  • Leadership - Fosters a positive environment to promote innovation and teamwork.
