Position Summary: The Skilled Trades Lab Aide will be responsible for assisting the Workforce Development and Continuing Education staff in maintaining clean and orderly skilled trades laboratories and classrooms. The Aide will assist in setting up for workforce development training and open enrollment courses based on schedules and locations of training. They will ensure equipment is cataloged and maintained, and complete or request maintenance as needed. The Aide will assist in ensuring equipment and supplies are ready and available when needed for training and courses including but not limited to welding coupons, automotive tech materials, deburring equipment, PLC equipment, construction materials, or plumbing materials.

Required Qualifications:

· High School graduate or equivalent
· Basic knowledge of safety in a skilled trades environment
· Basic knowledge of the technical aspects of skilled trades environments
· Ability to operate band saw and welding machines
· Ability to work independently
· Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving up to 30 pounds
· Ability to operate hand and power tools in a safe manner

Preferred Qualifications:

· Previous experience working with skilled trades tools and equipment
· Industry certification in a skilled trade

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Assists in setting up course material and equipment for workforce development training and open enrollment courses as required based on schedules and locations.
  • Prepares materials for laboratory exercises and training.
  • Evaluates tools and equipment conditions and makes recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and purchases.
  • Maintains the skilled trades laboratories, classrooms, and storages spaces in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Maintains inventory of training supplies and materials.
  • Coordinates purchasing of materials and supplies as needed.
  • Maintains relationships with instructors and other lab aides on standard operating procedures, best practices, and any collaborations between credit and non-credit.
