Position Summary: The Administrative Assistant WCTR will work under the guidance of the Writing Center Director and with the tutors of the WCTR to coordinate the activities of the center and ensure a safe and friendly learning environment for students; complete day to day duties using effective communication, organizational and time management skills; and perform confidential and specialized duties accurately.

This position's start date will be set for mid August.

Required Qualifications:

High school graduate or equivalent
Two years of related work experience in an academic or closely-related work setting
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to meet with students from a variety of backgrounds
Proficiency in the use of personal computer
Proficiency in Word and Excel

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • SERVE AS WCTR RECEPTIONIST- Serve as the point of first contact for students and visitors to the Writing Center. Answer queries about the Writing Center in person and telephone, direct students to proper resources and monitor check in/out process. 
  • PREPARE AND ORGANIZE WCTR RESOURCE MATERIALS- Order and distribute brochures and bookmarks as required, maintain the supply of handouts for students, order and maintain the list of required office supplies, update the tutor schedule each semester on the webpage and on the bulletin boards, update materials and supplies as needed. 
  • MAINTAINANCE AND CHECKOUT OF BOOKS AND HEADPHONES- Keep in the allocated storage ensuring equipment is intact and numbering is legible. Follow proper check out procedures for check out, making sure adequate collateral is retained and returned efficiently. 
  • MANAGE THE DAY-TO-DAY ACTIVITIES OF THE CENTER-Maintain classroom reservations, manage student requests for tutors in the center, prepare student usage reports, submit service requests when needed, coordinate with other desk personnel, identify and notify director of potential problems that impact the activities of the center.
